Kitchen Interior Designing-Architectural Design

Kitchen Interior Designing
Modern kitchen with Interior designing has taken over the normal dull looking kitchen. Now day’s Kitchen has been given special attention when it comes to interior designing. Modern kitchen with interior designing is better known as modular kitchen. . A modular kitchen is what a high quality designed kitchen would be with some good sections of cabins, shelves, chimney, dish washer and a good amount of storage capacity. Modular kitchen designs come in different variety and it helps in providing a fresh and pure environment.
While designing a beautiful kitchen, interior designer should keep the following things in the mind:-
·         Kitchen Interior should be made according to taste of individual and not as what you see here and there mixing everything resulting in a mess.
·         Despite of the size of kitchen, interiors and cabins should be properly organized.
·         Instead of painting every wall in the kitchen, wall decals can be used, with bright colors. Wall decals need not to be put around chimney sectioned wall as the cooking area will lead to smoke and it will make the wall decal dark.
·         One section of the wall in a kitchen can include metal or wood racks for wine bottles storage. This will keep the stock of bottles organized and neat.
·         The baking vessels should be kept in a separate cabinet near microwave or oven. The daily use utensils can be kept near dishwashing area. There should be separate cabinet for holding the jars, bottles, oil vertically with different sized dimensions.
·         The dustbin should be kept in a separate area under the dishwashing area in a cabinet, so that your kitchen surrounding doesn't lead to foul smell.
·         Flowers on fridge, microwave or some empty spaces will give positive energy to the kitchen.

Vastu has an important role to play interior designing of kitchen.  These are few points to be remember while designing a modular kitchen:
·         The ideal position for kitchen is the South-East corner of the house.
·         The cooking stove is best placed in the South-East corner (the place of Lord Agni)
·         The person cooking should face East direction as this brings good health for the family members
·         The Kitchen sink should be placed in North-East
·         The water filter and other drinking water storage should be done in the North-East direction of the kitchen
·         Refrigerator could be kept in South-East, West or North side, but not in the North-West corner
·         The dining table if placed in the kitchen should be in the North-West corner.

Architectural Design Trends in India –Residential Sector

Interior Design is a part of a larger discipline that is Architecture. Both Interior Design and Architecture are the act of designing within either a building or a space and have been adopted to differentiate the unique foci of work of the Architecture environment. However Interior  Design was recognized as a discipline separate from Architecture in India.
Over the years, architects took on the responsibility of furnishing a space and designed every aspect that went to its conception – from the furniture to the art work to the tapestries. However, this level of comfort, amenities and beauty, were restricted to spaces belonging to the rich.
India is now one of the world’s largest democracies and its continuous growth despite the global meltdown has put money into the hands of the middle class youth, who are now living a lifestyle their parents had only dreamed of. A well planned, professionally designed space is now well within their grasp and its being reflected in the growing industry of Architecture design.
Architecture design in India has come a long way. It has gained autonomy from Architecture and is no longer reduced to just decoration and furnishings. It sees space as a living environment, and is a holistic resolution of the socio-cultural, emotional and resource conditions of the context it represents.
Architecture Design, as a separate specialized design discipline, is a relatively new field in India. It has now been recognized as a profession different from decorators and architects dominating the field for historic reasons. Today, Architecture design in India has come a long way. It has gained autonomy from Architecture and is not just reduced to decoration and furnishings anymore. Architecture Design sees space as a living environment and is a holistic resolution of the socio-cultural, emotional and resource conditions of the context it represents.
In the context of design, ‘Architectures’ refers to any space within an enclosed structure that is inhabitable and human centered. These spaces include residences, offices, institutions, schools, hospitals, theatres, restaurants, hotels and resorts, airports and the like. This context also spills onto the structures’ extensions such as porches, entrances, swimming pools, landscaped areas, decks, patios etc.

Vaastu in Architecture

Vaastu Shastra is an ancient Indian science of architecture and buildings which helps in making a congenial setting or a place to live and work in a most scientific way taking advantage of the benefits bestowed by nature, its elements and energy fields for enhanced wealth, health, prosperity and happiness.
Vaastu is the science of direction that combines all the five elements of nature and balance them with the man and the material. Vaastu Shastra is creating a congenial settings or a place to live or work, in most scientific way taking advantages of the benefits bestowed by the five elements called "Paanchbhootas" of the nature thereby paving the way for enhanced health, wealth, prosperity and happiness in an enlightened environment.
Man is the subject, object and the cause of architecture. He perceives and conceives architecture in relation to his experience of himself with the surrounding world. Through art of design, he alters and moulds the elements of natural environment. The world comprises of five basic elements, also known as the Paanchbhootas. They are Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Space. Out of the nine planets, our planet has life because of the presence of these five elements. Earth and Water have limited and localized availability for the human habitat and growth. They form apparent and fundamental choice makers in the location and the physical form of architecture and habitat. Sun, Air and Space are universally available and can be moulded to human needs by the act of design. In order to understand the act of design with these five elements, we shall have to take each one separately to appreciate their meaning, role, and workability in architecture.

(1) EARTH (Bhumi): - Earth, the third planet in order from the sun, is a big magnet with North and South poles as centers of attractions. Its magnetic field and gravitational force has telling effects on everything on the Earth, living and non-living. It is tilted by about 23 ½ degrees at the meridian. It comprises of the land structure, landform, landscape, flora and fauna. It also establishes availability of local construction materials and their workability. In India, we worship our Bhumi and give her a place of our mother.
(2) WATER (Jal): - This is represented by rain, river, sea and is in the form of liquid, solid (ice) and gas (steam, cloud). It forms part of every plant and animal. Our blood is nothing but water with hemoglobin and oxygen. The habitat and physical life are where water is present. This is true for all life forms and eco-cultures. The type, form and pattern of life also greatly depend on relationship of earth and water. If we see our history, all the cultures had developed on the bank of any water bodies, so this shows the influence of the water on our life, since ages.
(3) AIR (Vaayu): - As a life-supporting element, air is very powerful life source. Pure air with oxygen is good for brain and blood. Atmosphere of earth which is about 400 kms. , In depth, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Carbon-di-oxide, Helium, other gases, dust particles, humidity and vapour in certain proportions. Human physical comfort values are directly and sensitively dependent on correct humidity, airflow, and temperature of air, air pressure, air composition and its content. In this aspect, air deals with the entire body surface through skin, blood system - through respiration. Air also represents the movement.
(4) FIRE (Sun): - It represents light and heat without which the life will extinct. All the days and nights, seasons, energy, enthusiasm, passion, vigour is because of light and heat only. Sun is a source of mental energy too. Best minds evolve in a natural process where the sun was temperate. Not very hot, not very cold, just the right temperature of 24 degrees. The different zones with the variety of climate have distinctive culture and architecture. Sun has played an important role in development of visual qualities of architecture in terms of textures, colors and above all the expressions of vitality.
(5) SPACE (Aakash): - All the above elements are skillfully engineers towards the creation of physically comfortable, emotionally pleasant, intellectually determinant, totally vibrant and blissfully satisfying spaces for human shelter and habitat. It is unending regions remote from the earth, in which not only our solar system but the entire galaxy exists. Its effective forces are light, heat, gravitational force and waves, magnetic field and others.
The ideal habitats, cultures, architecture and life have naturally shown exhilarence where all the five elements, to support life, are abundantly available and are suitable to human growth and evolution. This is an invisible and constant relation between these elements outside and those within an individual and in his living and working places. Thus, the man can improve his conditions by properly designing his buildings by understanding the effectiveness of these five natural forces.

The concept of Vastu Purusha
In Hindu cosmology the surface of the earth is represented as a square, the most fundamental of all Hindu forms. The earth is represented as four-cornered in reference to the horizon's relationship with sunrise and sunset, the North and South direction. It is called Chaturbhuji (four cornered) and represented in the form of the Prithvi Mandala. The astrological charts or horoscopes also represent in a square plan the positions of the sun, moon, planets and zodiac constellations with reference to a specific person's place and time of birth.
The legend of the Vastu Purusha is related thus. Once a formless being blocked the heaven from the earth and Brahma with many other gods trapped him to the ground. This incident is depicted graphically in the Vastu Purusha Mandala with portions allocated hierarchically to each deity based on their contributions and positions. Brahma occupied the central portion - the Brahmasthana- and other gods were distributed around in a concentric pattern. There are 45 gods in all including 32 outer deities.
North- Kubera- Ruled by lord of wealth (Finance)
South- Yama- Ruled by lord of death - Yama (Damaging)
East- Indra- Ruled by the solar deity- Aditya (Seeing the world)
West- Varuna- Ruled by lord of water (Physical)
Northeast {Eshanya} - Ruled by Shiva
Southeast- Agni- Ruled by the fire deity - Agni (Energy Generating)
Northwest- Vayu- ruled by the god of winds (Advertisement)
Southwest- Pitru/Nairutya, Niruthi- Ruled by ancestors (History)
Center- Brahma- Ruled by the creator of the universe (Desire)
The Vastu Purusha is the presiding deity of any site. Usually he is depicted as lying on it with the head in the northeast and legs in the southwest but he keeps changing position throughout the year.

House grid with sloping roof and open courtyard.
In accordance with the position occupied by the gods in the mandala, guidelines are given for zoning of site and distribution of rooms in a building. Some of these are:
North - treasury
Northeast - prayer room
East - bathroom
Southeast - kitchen
South - bedroom
Southwest - armoury
West - dining room
Northwest - cowshed

Architectural drawing - Modern architecture

Architectural drawing
An architectural drawing is a technical drawing of a building (or building project) that falls within the definition of architecture. Architectural drawings are used by architects and others for a number of purposes: to develop a design idea into a coherent proposal, to communicate ideas and concepts, to convince clients of the merits of a design, to enable a building contractor to construct it, as a record of the completed work, and to make a record of a building that already exists.
Architectural drawings are drawn according to a set of conventions, which include particular views (floor plan, section etc.), sheet sizes, units of measurement and scales, annotation and cross referencing. Conventionally, drawings were made in ink on paper or a similar material, and any copies required had to be laboriously made by hand. The twentieth century saw a shift to drawing on tracing paper, so that mechanical copies could be run off efficiently.
Types of architectural drawing
Architectural drawings are produced for a specific purpose, and can be classified accordingly. Several elements are often included on the same sheet, for example a sheet showing a plan together with the principal façade.
Presentation drawings
Drawings intended to explain a scheme and to promote its merits. Working drawings may include tones or hatches to emphasize different materials, but they are diagrams, not intended to appear realistic. Basic presentation drawings typically include people, vehicles and trees, taken from a library of such images, and are otherwise very similar in style to working drawings. Rendering is the art of adding surface textures and shadows to show the visual qualities of a building more realistically. An architectural illustrator or graphic designer may be employed to prepare specialist presentation images, usually perspectives or highly finished site plans, floor plans and elevations etc.
·         Survey drawings
Measured drawings of existing land, structures and buildings. Architects need an accurate set of survey drawings as a basis for their working drawings, to establish exact dimensions for the construction work. Surveys are usually measured and drawn up by specialist land surveyors.
·         Record drawings
Historically, architects have made record drawings in order to understand and emulate the great architecture known to them. In the Renaissance, architects from all over Europe studied and recorded the remains of the Roman and Greek civilizations, and used these influences to develop the architecture of the period. Records are made both individually, for local purposes, and on a large scale for publication.
Record drawings are also used in construction projects, where "as-built" drawings of the completed building take account of all the variations made during the course of construction.
·         Working drawings
A comprehensive set of drawings used in a building construction project: these will include not only architect's drawings but structural and services engineer's drawings etc. Working drawings logically subdivide into location, assembly and component drawings.
Location drawings, also called general arrangement drawings, include floor plans, sections and elevations: they show where the construction elements are located.
Assembly drawings show how the different parts are put together. For example a wall detail will show the layers that make up the construction, how they are fixed to structural elements, how to finish the edges of openings, and how prefabricated components are to be fitted.
Component drawings enable self-contained elements e.g. windows and doorsets, to be fabricated in a workshop, and delivered to site complete and ready for installation. Larger components may include roof trusses, cladding panels, cupboards and kitchens. Complete rooms, especially hotel bedrooms and bathrooms, may be made as prefabricated pods complete with internal decorations and fittings.
Traditionally, working drawings would typically combine plans, sections, elevations and some details to provide a complete explanation of a building on one sheet. That was possible because little detail was included, the building techniques involved being common knowledge amongst building professionals. Modern working drawings are much more detailed and it is standard practice to isolate each view on a separate sheet. Notes included on drawings are brief, referring to standardised specification documents for more information. Understanding the layout and construction of a modern building involves studying an often-sizeable set of drawings and documents.

Construction Tips – Modern Archtecture

Construction Tips – Modern Archtecture
Building a home may be the most important and valuable investment that you make in your lifetime. Although you may delegate a number of services to your contractor or engineer, it is still important for you to have the best possible knowledge about the various aspects of the construction process.

If economy is your concern, you can follow these tips to help you save construction costs:
·         Avoid complicated forms of shapes.
·         Avoid complex system of level.
·         Insist on economic structural design.
·         Provide maximum possible provision for natural light and ventilation.
·         Ensure efficient placement of utilities like water-supply pipes, power cables etc.
·         Use fresh, sound and durable building materials.
·         Engage trained manpower.
There are a few additional factors that should be considered during construction of the various rooms of the house:
Entrance
The entrance is the place to entertain visitors and should be constructed in a visually appealing manner.
For security reasons, the entrance must be constructed in such a way that it provides adequate protection to the house.
The entrance also needs to protect the house against inhospitable weather such as harsh sunlight and excessive rains.
Living Room
The living room should be located near to the entrance.
The living room should preferably face the lawn, wherever possible.
Tall windows can add a lot of visual appeal to the living room
Kitchen
The kitchen must have adequate ventilation and natural sunlight.
It should be adjoining the dining room.
The working platform must be adequately wide and free from obstructions.
The design should provide adequate space for appliances such as cooking range, dishwasher, chimney etc.
Bedroom
The bedroom should be located away from the entrance and living room to ensure privacy.
The bedroom should be connected with a balcony and attached bathroom, wherever possible.
Provide adequate storage facilities in the form of almirahs and cabinets
Bathroom
The bathroom must have adequate ventilation and natural lighting.
The bath fittings and sanitary fittings must be of a high quality to withstand regular and prolonged use.
The bathroom floor should be 5 cm lower than the other flooring of the house.

Vastu Shastra- Modern Architecture

Vastu Shastra- Modern Architecture
If you're building your home, the Vastu shastra advises to keep the following in mind
Site
The length of the land should not be more than twice the breadth. The land should not be too porous i.e. should not absorb water very fast. The slope of the land should be such that water flows towards North-East. The slope of the roof should be such that water should flow towards North or East. The house should not be constructed on the land which is a dead end.Select a site where the land is fertile and not dry and rocky. Avoid water logged land or land at the end of a road. Avoid land too close to graveyards, cemeteries, hospitals, etc... Ideally the plot should be rectangular or square in shape. Square is best. If it is a rectangle, the ratio of length to breadth should be 1:1.5
Natural features
Plots should be with higher levels in the South & West and lower levels in the North and East. Water bodies like rivers, canals, etc. should be towards the North, East or Northeast and the mountains towards the South and West.
House design
Avoid U-shaped, V-shaped, L-shaped and triangular shaped houses. The angles are not conducive to attracting positive energy.
Prayer Room
The Puja Room should be located in the North East direction. Alternatively, it can located in the North or East direction. While worshipping, the person should face the East. Idols should not exceed 6 inches in height. One should not sleep in the Puja Room. This direction is ideal for Water storage. Thus underground water tanks, filter etc. should be kept in this direction. Room for prayer and meditation is recommended to be in the north-east corner of the house.
Deity or image of god should not face the south direction. Ideal positions are such that you face east or west while praying.
Staircase
If the steps leading to the entrance are damaged or broken, then the master of the house will face problems with his career and his expenses will soar. The staircase should ascend clockwise. The total no. of steps should be such that on division by 3, a remainder of 2 should be obtained for eg. 7, 11, 17 etc.
Number of columns in a building
Columns in a building should be in even numbers.
Columns in the north-east corner should not be circular.
When columns are exposed for architectural purposes, the number of exposed columns also should be even.
Children's Room: - The children are future of the nation. If the parents are able to give right direction to the children at their tender age then tomorrow they will turn into disciplined citizens. The children's room, too, should be constructed in the North-West corner but the bathroom should be arranged in above noted direction only. Children's room can be located in this corner i.e. the North West. The study room can also be located in this direction. Water Tank on the Roof of the house should located in this direction. This direction is also ideal for Cattle and Granary store.
Doors: - The Main-Gate should have two panels. The main door should not open inside the house. The doors in the house should not be noisy. The total number of doors, windows and ventilators in the house should be even in number for eg. 2, 4, 6 etc. but should not end with a 0 i.e. 10, 20 etc. If the front door frame is painted black, then the owner might have to face hardship. If the door has cracks or is too old, then the owner will have a tough time gaining respect in society.
Drawing Room: - It should be in North-West, South or west direction. In the traditional drawing rooms mattresses, covered with white sheets of cloth are spread in the entire room and round pillows are kept in South and West walls. Similarly, in the modern drawing room, the furniture should be kept in South and West directions. As far as possible the open space should be maximum in North and East directions.
Dining Room: - In olden days the meals were taken in the kitchen itself but now the dining room has become an integral part of the drawing room.  Dining Room should be towards the West as it is ruled by Saturn and it is in the way of Bhooteshwara, the symbolic representation of the hungry. It trees are to be planted in the premises, they can be planted in this direction i.e. the West.
Guest Room: - It should be in North-West corner.

Floor plan in Modern Architecture

Floor plan in Modern Architecture
In architecture and building engineering, a floor plan, or floorplan, is a diagram, usually to scale, showing a view from above of the relationships between rooms, spaces and other physical features at one level of a structure.
Dimensions are usually drawn between the walls to specify room sizes and wall lengths. Floor plans will also include details of fixtures like sinks, water heaters, furnaces, etc. Floor plans will include notes to specify finishes, construction methods, or symbols for electrical items.
It is also called a "plan" in architectural terms, as opposed to "elevation" which means how the object will look when seen from a side, or a "cross section" where the building is shown cut along an axis to reveal the interior.
Overview – Floor Plan
Similar to a map the orientation of the view is downward from above, but unlike a conventional map, a plan is understood to be drawn at a particular vertical position (commonly at about 4 feet above the floor). Objects below this level are seen, objects at this level are shown 'cut' in plan-section, and objects above this vertical position within the structure are omitted or shown dashed. Plan view or "planform" is defined as a vertical orthographic projection of an object on a horizontal plane, like a map.
The term may be used in general to describe any drawing showing the physical layout of objects. For example, it may denote the arrangement of the displayed objects at an exhibition, or the arrangement of exhibitor booths at a convention. Now drawings are reproduced using plotters and large format xerographic copiers.
A "reflected ceiling plan" shows a view of the room as if looking from above, through the ceiling, at a mirror installed one foot below the ceiling level, which shows the reflected image of the ceiling above. This convention maintains the same orientation of the floor and ceilings plans - looking down from above. Reflected Ceiling Plans or RCP's are used by designers and architects to demonstrate lighting, visible mechanical features, and ceiling forms as part of the documents provided for construction.
Modern floor plans can be depicted in 3d during the initial design phase. Using CAD software designers can create a 3d floor plan used by architects to aid in the design of the floor plan.
Building blocks- Floor Plans
A floor plan is a top view or birds eye view drawing of the interior of a building.
·         Interior walls and hallways
·         Restrooms
·         Windows and doors
·         Appliances such as stoves, refrigerators, water heater etc.
·         Interior features such as fireplaces, saunas and whirlpools
·         The use of all rooms shall be indicated
Floor Plans

A floor plans is an overhead view of the completed house. You'll see parallel lines that scale at whatever width the walls are required to be. Dimensions are usually drawn between the walls to specify room sizes and wall lengths. Floor plans will also indicate rooms, all the doors and windows and any built-in elements, such as plumbing fixtures and cabinets, water heaters and furnaces, etc. Floor plans will include notes to specify finishes, construction methods, or symbols for electrical items.
An open floorplan is one which values wide, unenclosed spaces. They are made possible by curtain-wall technology, which rendered the use of internal load-bearing walls obsolete in the mid twentieth century.

Why choose  ApnaGhar – for proper Floor Plan

1. Choose a House Plan That Suits Your Land
Choose a plan that fits the characteristics of your land. It's better to make the house fit the land rather than try to make the land fit the house. Also, the size and shape of your lot affects the type of home you can build on the lot.
2. Be Open-minded
It's important to be open-minded when looking at houses. By doing this, you'll learn things you never realized. Over time, your 'ideal' home will evolve and change. If you are like most people, you will probably buy a home that is different from what you thought you wanted. Don't quickly discard houses. You will have a better understanding of what you want by taking a close look at many houses.
3. Exteriors Are Easy to Change
Some people will only look at a house if they like its appearance. However, usually the house's exterior can easily be changed. The changes to an exterior can be so dramatic that you won't realize you are looking at the same house. To change the exterior, you can use different windows, modify roof lines, and change exterior details. Don't judge a home by its appearance. It's the inside that really counts. After all, you'll spend 90% of your time on the inside of your home.
4. Hidden Potential
You might discard the right home because you don't see its hidden potential. For example, say you don't like living rooms and you avoid houses that have living rooms. However, a living room could serve another purpose. It could become a den, a nursery, or an additional bedroom. It could also be an excellent dining room. Changing the location of a doorway or adding a wall may convert a room into something you would really love. Sometimes all you need to do is rename a room. When looking at houses, look for the hidden potential.
5. Perfect Homes Don't Exist
Some people spend years searching for the perfect home. However, they never find it because their perfect home is a fantasy. It doesn't really exist. Be realistic when shopping for a home. Ask yourself what are features you must have and what are features you want to have. When you find a house that meets your requirements, it may not have all of your wants. However, if you hold on to your dream of a perfect home, you might pass up the right house and regret it later
